Hannah Williams - Miss Wales 2017 finalist - March 2017

Miss Wales for me is all about giving and Wales is my pride. I am delighted to have been chosen as a finalist this year, I have experienced so much drive and determination to achieve and I feel that Miss Wales has been a fantastic platform to share experiences and make a difference. After taking the small step in applying I have cherished the opportunity to meet some inspiring young women from our nation, the competition has allowed me to raise money for fantastic charities and it has given me the boost of self-confidence and belief to achieve my goals. Since being a 2017 finalist I have really put my all in to raising as much money as possible for Beauty with a Purpose. I have held a charity night of entertainment where guests were treated to talented welsh singers, auctions, and raffles and I managed to raise over £3500 which I am extremely proud of. I have also held a showstopper Valentine’s Day cake sale, a sponsored Christmas jumper day with work colleagues and I have successfully completed a sponsored 5K course over giant inflatable obstacles. Miss Wales has proven that with hard work you can achieve many great things for charity. I definitely feel more energised to get out there and do something better today than yesterday and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting my communities involved with all aspects of the competition. Throughout my experience I have also become a Sony Ambassador for STEM(Science, technology, engineering and maths) professions. I have attended events with the welsh assembly member for the Vale of Glamorgan and the Minister of skills and science sharing views on how we can inspire young women and encourage their interest into these professions. I have also been raising awareness and had the opportunity to present to local schools highlighting the opportunities available to them within manufacturing professions. It has been a great experience to support and encourage young women. I can honestly say coming into the competition I never thought I would achieve what I have done. My journey truly has been rewarding, I feel that I have grown within myself, it has helped my mind set become even more positive and I’ve gained memories I will never forget. I reach out to all girls when I say this, Miss Wales is really like a sisterhood and I encourage you all to go for it, It’s developed me as a person and I will treasure this experience for the rest of my life.
