Claire Evans crowned Miss Wales 2005

In a glittering ceremony held last night, Claire Evans from Aberystwyth was crowned Miss Wales 2005 and will now represent the principality in the Miss World competition in China this December.

Claire, 22, was one of 30 finalists in the competition which is run in association with Platinum sponsor the Cellite Clinic. The show was introduced by Red Dragon’s Jason Harrold and last year’s Miss Wales and Miss UK, Amy Guy.

The contestants took part in three rounds in front of a panel of six judges including former Steps star, Lisa Scott-Lee, former Miss Wales 1979 Beverley Neals, Bobby McVay of Red Dragon, Andy Nakonecznyj of Save the Children and Amanda Protheroe-Thomas, Welsh TV presenter, and Professor Harryono Judodihardjo from Cellite Clinic who is chair of the judges. This will be Claire’s second time representing her country, as a keen cross country runner she has competed for Wales since she was 14. As a keen sportswoman who trains five times a week she also has ambitions to compete in the 2010 Commonwealth games and compete in the London Marathon.

She said, “I am absolutely over the moon to win Miss Wales and I am looking forward to a very exciting year ahead.”
Runners up in the competition were Laura Livesey from Old Colwyn and Lisa Lloyd Hughes from Llanelli

  • Naseem Syed from Newport - Miss Charity sponsored by Save the Children and The Big Sleep Hotel

Paula Abbandonato, of event organisers Vibe said, ‘All of the girls who took part in this year’s competition should feel proud of themselves as they put on a brilliant show. They were fantastic’.

The winner of 2005 will enjoy a whole range of benefits including a programme of treatments and consultations with the Cellite Clinic, to ensure she has had the best possible preparation for Miss World in December.

Professor Harryono Judodihardjo, medical director at Cellite Clinic and Chairman of the Judging panel said, “The standard at the competition was once again very high and all of the girls should be very proud to have competed in such a professional way in the final. I wish Claire every success.”

Winning Miss Wales is not only an amazing achievement but brings with it the opportunity of a lifetime to spend one all expenses paid month at the Miss World Final in China.
