Ffion wins Miss Wales 2016
Twenty-three-year-old Ffion Moyle from Carmarthen has been crowned Miss Wales 2016.
Ffiion is a self-employed health and beauty consultant and took the title in front of a sell-out crowd on Saturday 16 April at the Princess Royal Theatre in Port Talbot.
She was one of 39 finalists from across the country in the running for the crown.
The Miss Wales grand final – which was sponsored by Bamboo Dental - involved three appearances on the stage for finalists including the patriotic Welshwear opener; a red dress catwalk; and the traditional evening wear parade. All finalists also had one to one interviews with the panel of six judges.
As well as the catwalk event, the contestants attended the Miss Wales Charity Ball the night before and took part in the Miss Wales Empowerment Day to help them in their personal development and leadership skills.
In the run up to the final, the girls had been tasked with fundraising for Beauty With A Purpose, the Miss World charity which helps disadvantaged children worldwide. In total, they raised more than £22,000.
Now, Ffion will enjoy a year of appearances in her new role and will have the privilege of representing Wales at Miss World in the autumn.
She said: “I feel overwhelmed, excited, relieved and proud. I’m looking forward to the whole experience which for me is mainly about making few friends, enjoying new opportunities as well as all the glamorous things too of course!
“I would like to encourage other girls to take part in the Miss Wales experiences – it’s a great opportunity to grown in confidence, make a difference and have a lot of fun.”
Ffion will also become an ambassador for BulliesOut – a charity which works with the bullied, the bully and the bystander.
She said: “Bullying is an issue which can affect all people of all ages. During my year I hope to use my role to reach young women in particular to spread the message that bullying of any kind must not be condoned. I feel that this role is a real privilege and I look forward to doing what I can to add my support.
As well as Ffion’s win, a number of other awards were given on the weekend of the Miss Wales final. They were:
• Sophie Bell from Swansea who was first runner up
• Victoria Grinnall from Newport who was second runner up
• Sophie Crutcher from Llantristant who won best smile, sponsored by Bamboo Dental
• Chloe Dobbin from Tonyrefail who won the public vote. Chloe also won the ‘Miss Socialite’ award for the best Miss Wales social media campaign
• Carys Chambers from Swansea who raised the most for charity for the Miss World charity, Beauty With A Purpose. Her grand total was more than £2,000.
• The ‘Best Team’ award was won by Team Swansea – comprising Sophie Bell, Carys Chambers, Laura Mitchell and Nikita Shadrach - who won the best team award
• Natasha Johnson from Llandeilo who won the Spirit of Miss Wales award
